The Material Handling Team Manager is an integral role within operation, reporting directly to the Finishing & Material Handling Value Stream Manager. This individual is responsible for the ongoing material handling, receiving, WIP and shipping processes including transactional and inventory accuracy. The Material Handling Team Manager is also responsible for providing leadership and direction for all Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost reduction objectives that meet and exceed our internal and external customers needs.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Manage all non-exempt employees on your assigned shift in the areas of Shipping, Receiving, WIP, SAI.
With guidance and support from functional management, responsible for developing a customer centric and collaborative culture across the material handling teams.
Provide vision and direction to increase organizational capability and deliver process excellence on a consistent basis.
Provide daily leadership to instill and reinforce an injury-free workplace and environmental compliance.
Daily management of all material handling processes and transaction accuracy.
Develop/maintain work instructions and ensure compliance in regards to receipt, material handling, storage, and operational delivery of all chemical components, materials, and finished products.
Ensure thorough training of hazards and safe handling of all chemical and material components.
Ensure safe handling and shipping processes when shipping adhesives to internal customers.
Resolve any safety concerns for the department, as well as for customers, where applicable
Continuously train/motivate/coach/develop department Team Leads and all team members.
Participate in continuous improvement projects at they pertain to material handling and flow.
Drive execution of site improvement plans, help set operations improvement goals, ensure priorities and accountabilities are always clear within operations, provide resources and remove obstacles to ensure success.
Manage staffing to economically meet business requirements and create cross training opportunities.
Train and provide development opportunities for staff. Ensure annual goals are complete and communicated. Ensure Global Performance System (GPS) is up to date and regular feedback is provided to staff members quarterly.
Maintain a partnership with the Logistics Department and the operations.
Lead the management and ordering of pallets and shipping supplies
Own inventory and cycle counts for respective shipping, receiving, and ship-as-is areas
Generate and adjust shipping/receiving schedules as needed
Responsible for the proper organization and movement of trailers and pallets both in the yard and on the floor
GENERAL OPERATIONS RESPONSIBILITIES:
Health & Safety: Consistently works in a safe manner with regard to self, co-workers, and manufacturing systems. Engages and inspires team members to make safety personal and facilitates general housekeeping tasks and waste removal within department/group and assists other areas as required.
ELS: Continuously reviews current processes and searches out improvement methods to improve product/process quality and reduce waste, rework, and unnecessary work that adds no value to the work or process. Supports safety, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Teamwork: Assists and supports other team members in meeting department and site goals. Participates and shares in performing all tasks necessary to run the facility. Contributes and participates in team decision-making. Provides support in project work and other special requests.
Leadership experience required:
1 year experience of managing teams is required. 5+ years leadership experience preferred in a Manufacturing or Supply Chain role.
2 years minimum required in manufacturing or supply chain.
Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships with all functions and levels of the organization.
Results oriented focus and ability to take ownership to resolve issues.
Flexibility and willingness to initiate change.
High customer focus: ability to proactively identify and meet customer needs.
Ability to interface with cross-functional groups to define and execute overall requirements.
Familiarity in process documentation and improvement.
Capability to become a superuser in Oracle computer system
APICS certification preferred.
High school diploma or GED equivalency is required.
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Six Sigma Certifications are a plus.
