The qualified candidate will conduct applied research and product/process development in Energy Curable inks and coatings. Working with teams of engineers and scientists, he/she will investigate creative solutions to technical problems and create business opportunities by systematically exploring approaches based on Polymer and Materials Science, Coatings and Ink Chemistries, and Process Improvement specific to energy cure. Candidate will use his/her knowledge of the chemistry and physics of polymers, adhesives and coatings to support the development of UV/LED printing capabilities and technology platforms. Position requires hands-on lab prototype development of coatings, inks, adhesives, and systems, as well as manufacturing pilot and scale up trials in conjunction with plant personnel.
Develops materials and compositions that may be used in coated and/or printing systems that are used in UV and UV/LED curing of Graphic Arts and/or apparel printing methods.
Develops manufacturing methods and establishes specifications and standard operating procedures for such products.
Provides training and leadership on new products and processes to other technical and commercial team members.
Chemist with a Bachelor of Science and at least 3 years experience in Energy Curable Chemistry, Polymer Science, Surface/ Coatings Science, or Materials Science preferred.
Strong knowledge of good laboratory practices & relevant research experience required.
Position requires excellent problem-solving skills with high levels of motivation, initiative and energy.
Must have direct experience in the development of coatings, dispersions, inks, toners, and supplies related to coating and printing.
Direct experience with UV/LED curable inks and coatings is highly preferred.
Working knowledge of current digital printing methods, technology, suppliers, and chemical systems related to such.
Must possess knowledge of or be familiar with analytical methodologies and standard analytical techniques.
Experience with manufacturing methods used in the dispersion of pigmented systems, mixing, coating, and printing.
Experiences in the following areas are also important: polyurethane; epoxy; vinyl and polyester, pigments, dyes, adhesive systems for both solvent and water on plastic, paper and textile substrates.
Effective written and oral communications.
Excellent computer skills.
Excellent working knowledge of Excel, Word, MS Project, etc.
Thorough working knowledge of statistical Design of Experiments.
Good planning skills and working experience with project management techniques.
Able to work independently as well as in a team.
Ability to interact effectively with both internal and external customers.
