Responsibilities:- Become a technical lead for Avery Dennison Reflective Solutions, focused ontraffic and safety industry- Lead development of next generation retro-reflective products and solutions- Bring strong problem solving skills- Manage multiple product development projects through a rigorous Stage Gateprocess simultaneously, while achieving targeted costs, project timing, andcustomer and regulatory specifications.- Act as a key integrator at business unit level between functions and regionsincluding product development, purchasing, operations, supply chain, andmarketing to move projects forward.- Work closely with commercial teams in the design and development of newproducts, including VOC analysis, CTQ-mapping and cost-benefit analysis.- Engage with external partners, customers and suppliers on key developmentprojects; lead external innovation for the department- Identify new products, technologies, suppliers and materials relevant to thereflective industry.- Utilize Enterprise Lean Sigma (ELS) tools and methodologies and follow theStage Gate process in product development projects- Develop and execute ECR's at the plants in support of the development ofnew or modified products.- Provide technical leadership in the area of polymer chemistry, polymerprocessing of common polymers such as polycarbonates, poly-methylmethacrylates, poly-vinyl chlorides, polyurethanes and polyesters.- Support and lead lab testing, like accelerated weathering of polymers,adhesive testing, chemical analysis, printing, etc.- Follow all corporate safety policies and procedures.
Degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Polymer Engineering,Chemistry or related.- 3+ years industry experience- M.S. degree required, Ph.D. preferred.- Strong project management skills, and experience executing multi-facetedresearch and development projects.- Excellent knowledge of polymer chemistry, specifically of engineeringpolymers and knowledge about engineering, optical, mechanical and physicalproperties of polymer films.- Experience with polymer additives, particularly dyes/pigments and functionaladditives.- Some experience with polymer compounding and/or film extrusion with ageneral understanding of extrusion process parameters and extrusionequipment.
Proven success working with medium to large teams, internal and external todrive forward Innovation projects.- Knowledge of Six Sigma and ELS techniques. Prefer Green or Black belt inELS.- Worked with and/or developed techniques to test for polymer stress behaviorsuch as long-term durability testing, chemical resistance, control of surfaceerosion, etc.
