Job Description

Avery Dennison is seeking a Production Buyer/Planner to support our Reflective Solutions plant located in Painesville, OH. As a Production Buyer/Planner, you will leverage your skills and experience to become an integral member of our Reflective Solutions and Digital Ink Solutions Global Supply Chain team. This role will report into the Operations Manager. In this role, you will focus on activities related to Scheduling, Buying, Planning, and Inventory / Material Control to maximize efficiency and production for our Digital Ink and Reflective Sheeting businesses.  This role regularly collaborates with Operations, Suppliers, Customer Service, and R&D. 

The Production Buyer/Planner is accountable for both short term, tactical KPI’s as well as longer term strategic KPI’s to deliver quarterly and annual results for the Reflective Division.  The role will also focus on improvements to processes and prepare reports, graphs and charts of data and/or ensure efficiency. 

 Primary responsibilities and essential functions:

  • Manage and improve raw material planning and ordering processes:   conduct daily planning / ordering. for all raw materials; analyze raw material usage in response to demand or supply changes; improve and standardize daily planning processes.

  • Maintain and improve vendor management processes, including Supplier Scorecard and Forecasting.

  • Manage site raw material inventory to achieve service and inventory objectives.  Oversee site inventory management processes for raws (cycle counts, loss reduction projects, SLOB inventory).

  • Identify and lead projects to improve raw planning, inventory management, and service.

  • Provide support for new product introduction or transitions.

  • Monitor demand (external customer and internal global regional sales orders) as well as supply (inventory levels) against pending supplier purchase releases to meet customer requirements 

  • Maintain adequate inventory, scheduling and receiving of shipments. Ownership of key initiatives and projects, with a focus on achieving Avery Dennison Digital Ink and Reflective service targets as well as reducing slow moving and obsolete inventory and obsolescence.

  • Respond to changes in demand and supply chain and perform root-cause analysis to solve any supply chain problems that may occur.

  • Schedules all 3rd party manufacturing orders to meet demand on time and in full.

  • Prioritizes external customer and global regional internal orders based on requested order dates,  production campaigns, and manufacturing capacity.

  • Confirming raw material availability prior to Operation production runs.

  • Manages raw material min/max level inventory and turns, placing orders. (KPI)

  • Create and maintain supplier stocking strategies and/or VMI programs.

  • Places all PO’s accurately following all Avery Dennison purchasing policies and guidelines.

  • Troubleshoots and resolves all PO and invoicing matching  exceptions for Painesville purchases, in a timely fashion.

  • Collaborate with Global Procurement to maintain supplier pricing tables.

  • Establish new suppliers and new part numbers in ERP, update LT and MOQ in ERP

  • Build and maintain good relationships and lasting partnerships with Global supply base 

  • Identify and communicate bottleneck areas and provide assistance to manage over/under capacity situations

  • Lead WIP management to minimize obsolescence and improve inventory turns

  • Manages inventory to target / safety stock levels where defined

  • Participates in Painesville plant physical inventory process, when needed

  • Monitor stock programs, collaborate with division stakeholders to recommend proper planning parameters, as necessary.

  • Lead projects to implement pull planning, WIP inventory management, service improvements

  • Support product transitions and new product introductions for Supply Chain.

  • Acts as the primary contact for external communication to commercial and on expedited orders for digital inks in Painesville, OH.

  • Acting backup for the reflective sheeting  business.

  • Ability to operate independently with a high degree of energy, enthusiasm, and flexibility.

General operations responsibilities:

  • Health & Safety: Consistently works in a safe manner with regard to self, co-workers, and manufacturing systems. Performs general housekeeping tasks and waste removal within department/group and assists other areas as required.

  • ELS: Continuously reviews current processes and searches out improvement methods to improve product/process quality and reduce waste, rework, and unnecessary work that adds no value to the work or process. Supports safety, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Teamwork: Assists and supports other team members in meeting department and site goals. Participates and shares in performing all tasks necessary to run the facility. Contributes and participates in team decision-making. Provides support in project work and other special requests.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Logistics, Engineering, Finance or Supply Chain Management.

  • 3+ years previous scheduling, planning, or Supply Chain experience, preferred.

  • General Supply Chain, Materials Management, and Logistics knowledge.

  • Excellent analytical, mathematical, organizational, verbal and written communication skills, critical thinking, negotiation skills and problem solving skill set.

  • Ability to interface with cross-functional groups to define and execute overall requirements.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships with all functions and levels of the organization.

  • Proactive and collaborative style with a sense of urgency and ownership in performance

  • Ability to work well with all levels of management and employees. 

  • Takes ownership for service related issues

  • APICS certification, ELS certification and/or Green Belt preferred.
