Job Description

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

The Innovation Director for External Embellishment is a senior leadership position that is focused on leading a technical team (chemists, material scientists and engineers) to deliver new solutions to enable the growth of the Avery Dennison External Embellishments business, one of the fastest-growing solutions in the company’s portfolio. Working closely with the Product Line Director for External Embellishments, you will identify future solution needs and develop specific - short-term and long-term - innovation projects to meet those needs.

The leader will have full responsibility for Research and Development for External Embellishments, and provide Technical Quality support across all product lines. Working closely with our Operations team, you will have accountability for successfully validating and deploying new products/solutions. And you will work cross-functionally with the Product Line Management, Sustainability, Costing and Operations to ensure successful, on-time execution of innovation projects.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, chemistry or material sciences or related preferred. Master’s degree preferred.

Experience:

  • 10+ years technical management experience in product development and innovation

  • Previous experience leading people and teams strongly preferred

  • Heat Transfer, Inks/Coatings manufacturing knowledge preferred

  • Strong innovation execution experience, including management of stage gate processes

  • Demonstrated business acumen, particularly in justifying innovation efforts and investments

  • Proven success in working cross-functionally with multiple stakeholders, including manufacturing and commercial/sales

  • Demonstrated technical problem-solving acumen

  • Excellent contextual communication skills

  • Experience working with Operations and Supply Chain organizations to scale new solutions

  • Proven experience leading and communicating priority in a matrix organization

  • Foundational understanding of sustainability principles

  • Ability to effectively influence across the leadership team and with senior leadership regarding strategy, solutions, priorities, and resource allocation

  • Market knowledge and network within the External Embellishment industry ( screenprinting, coating, …) preferred

  • Experience managing an open innovation/partnership framework a bonus

  • Advanced degree preferred

  • International travel - 30%
