Job Description

The Coating Business Unit Manager role at the Painesville Films Facility (PFF) is focused on the improving the performance of our coating department to achieve excellence in safety, quality, service, cost and people. Development and execution of departmental strategies which align with key business objectives is critical to this role. This role will work cross-functionally within Operations, Maintenance, Quality, Engineering, Supply Chain, Finance, Sales, Marketing, and Procurement. Ability to work cross-functional, influence others and knowledge of the Materials Group businesses are key to the role.

In your role as Coating Business Unit Manager, delivering on these responsibilities is critical to success:

  • Promote safety as the most important value in the organization. Provide leadership and direction to maintain a safe operation at all times.

  • Ensure the Coating business unit is constantly striving to meet customer needs and expectations through interactions and communications with the Materials Group business teams.

  • Provide the Coating operations system with performance measurement tools and expectations to meet critical operating goals.

  • Lead strategic planning and visioning processes for the long term improvement of the Coating center.

  • Ensure continuous development of the PFF Coating operating system and front line supervisors through the 1:1 communications and the performance review process.

  • Provide leadership for continuous improvement. Promote and lead Enterprise Lean Sigma (ELS) activities to reduce variation and eliminate waste from plant product and processes.

  • Interact with sales, marketing and all internal functions to reach business sales and profit goals by providing a reliable supply of high quality products and services at the lowest possible costs.

  • Develop partnerships with customers and suppliers.

  • Promote collaboration between operations, engineering and resource groups.

  • Sponsor and lead key Coating Unit improvement initiatives and projects. Provide direction for projects in quality, cost reductions, six sigma and Environmental, Health and Safety.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering field required. Bachelor’s degree with Six Sigma Black Belt may also be considered.

Experience:

  • 4+ years experience in chemical or solvent-based manufacturing operations position and experience leading non-exempt employees.

Other:

  • Leadership experience and demonstrated ability to lead, coach and build relationships while effectively managing boundaries.

  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and grow individuals within the organization and prepare for higher level or more challenging roles.

  • Ability and willingness to adjust schedule to support three-shift operations.

  • Commitment to a team-oriented organization

  • Results driven with a focus on continuous improvement. Organized and logical with ability to prioritize and sort complex problems moving to root cause and final resolution.

  • Knowledge of solvent Coating operations. Experience with continuous flow manufacturing preferred.

  • Black Belt or Green Belt Certification desired

  • Promotable to Operations or Plant Manager in 2-4 years
