Job Description
Avery Dennison is looking for a R&D Pilot Technician for our Reflective Solutions business based in North America. In this role, you will lead pilot trials for product and process experimentation. You will also fully operate pilot equipment to generate samples, collect accurate test data and support our business development goals You will work under the leadership of our Senior R&D Leader and will be based at our location in Niles, IL. To be successful, you should have a strong aptitude for technical work and a real passion for collaborative work in a team-based environment.
Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Lead pilot trials for product and process experimentation.
Generate samples using pilot embosser and/or pilot extruder.
Operation, maintenance and change-over of pilot equipment
Problem solving and optimization of running conditions in order to generate samples with acceptable quality
Collect accurate test data using properly calibrated analytical equipment, such as a colorimeter, spectrometer, photometer, peel adhesion tester, release tester, or tensile and elongation tester.
Report and log test data to Research Engineers, including trial plans, data, observations, and conclusions.
Work in a collaborative environment, engaging with other R&D engineers and technicians
Keep a laboratory notebook in order to report on and maintain accurate records of test results.
Utilize strong project management skills to plan and complete project tasks on time.
Practice all health and safety procedures, policies and practices of Avery Dennison.
Follow all corporate policies and procedures.
Qualifications
B.S. in related field
3+ years work experience in a Laboratory Technician role
May require frequent lifting up to 50 pounds
Excellent organization and attention to detail
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Strong verbal and written skills
Preferred:
Experience with running lab trials is a plus
Experience with coating, extrusion, lamination process is a plus
Proficient in Google Tools, MS Excel, MS Word, MS Powerpoint, and Minitab is a plus
