Job Description

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING (SCOPE OF ROLE):

  • Understanding of wide application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in the pressure sensitive industry or label manufacturing field. General knowledge of other related disciplines.

  • Apply extensive technical expertise, and has full knowledge of other related disciplines.

  • Develop technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity.

  • Work is performed without appreciable direction. Exercise considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment. Completed work is reviewed from a relatively long-term perspective, for desired results.

  • Guide the successful completion of major programs and may function in a project leadership role. Erroneous decisions or recommendations would typically result in failure to achieve major organizational objectives.

  • Represent the organization as the prime technical contact on contracts and projects. Interact with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO BRING TO THE TEAM (REPRESENTATIVE ACTIVITIES):

  • Function independently, subject matter expert of technology with a track record of accomplishments.

  • Generate ideas and validate, demonstrate creativity in quantity and quality of technology produced.

  • May act as R&D representative in Strategic Business Teams, Global Technology Component Consultant and Manager of Global Product Portfolio.

  • Understand and apply Design for Lean Sigma (DFLS) and NPD/Stage gate process when driving execution.

  • Communicate technology transfer and use resources/talent to scout technology. Lead technology transfer activities (coordinate and delegate activities). Understand and articulate how emerging technologies can be applied to new products.

  • Responsible for project budget, budget concerns, driving growth and product development, yield and product quality improvements, driving cost reduction, capacity increases and EHS improvements.

  • Maintain awareness of the fields advances in technology and competitive intellectual property.

  • Lead and conduct problem solving with technical developments and quality issues. Identify and diagnose problem including scope and level of complexity.

Qualifications

Avery Dennison has a long history of being a market leader. Your history is important to us. It should include the following:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent with 10+ years relevant experience

  • Excellent analytical capability with the expertise to research and apply logical and scientific thinking to a wide range of technical problems

  • Experienced with application engineering processes: collect data interpret data translate to real world benefits and outcomes

  • Experience with materials engineering and research

  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new situations, demonstrated effectively working with cross functional teams

  • Strong math and organizational skills

  • Keen interest in new technologies and their applications

  • Keen attention to detail, strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to be an advisor to co-workers and clients and build strong and sustainable relationships
