Production Tooling Specialist

In our Miamisburg, Ohio location, our teams work to produce an extensive line of stock and custom labels, tickets and tags, printers and other related products for some of the largest organizations in logistics, food and retail.

The Team Member We're Looking For...

We are looking to add a member to our 3rd shift team! In this role, you will have the opportunity to carry out production tooling processes in support of supplies production manufacturing. Tooling processes include cataloging, organizing and performing general maintenance of the punch, die and rotary tooling on all production machinery/equipment,  Maintaining ancillary equipment, performing knife sharpening, performing set-up and building, and expediting tooling repair. 

In the course of your work, you would get to work and interact with a number of people like your teammates, your group leader, your manager and people from other departments like Quality and Warehouse.

During the course of your day, some of the things you'd be doing include:

Maintaining punch, die and rotary tooling, knife units and/or ancillary equipment in press ready state.

  • Performing inspection and proofing of incoming tooling/equipment; determining if tooling/equipment adheres to specifications; expediting corrective action through vendors and/or management when not within specifications.

  • Cleans, inspects and determines repair or replacement requirements:  identifies corrective actions for repair requirements.

  • Using precision measurement equipment verifying conformance of parts to blueprints and sketches.

  • Expediting and scheduling repair.

  • Making repairs on rotary tooling (e.g., replacing gears and bearings)

  • Setting up and operating die sharpening machine and sharpens tooling and rotary dies.

  • Peening or replacing punches.

  • Sharpening or replacing dies.

  • Operating vertical milling machinery, drill presses and surface grinders to maintain tooling/parts in press ready state.

  • Building knife units per specifications and assisting with complex slitter changeovers.

Making special set-ups on production machines pertaining to punch and die units, rotary tooling, and knife units.  Performing set-ups per prints, sketches and special instructions.

Preparing and using maintenance charts, inventory tracking, daily recording of repairs, and tracks usage (e.g., amount of labels per run per item via handwritten documentation and various software programs).

Ordering and expediting parts as required.

Contacting vendors, industrial engineering and manufacturing engineering to determine feasible methods of producing special quoted items.

Performing general housekeeping tasks and waste removal within department/group and assist other areas as required.

As a member of a production support team you'd be training, assisting and supporting other team members in equipment operations and problem solving.  You'd be continuously reviewing current processes and researching improvement methods to reduce waste, rework, and unnecessary work that add no value to the work or process.

Based on business need, assisting and supporting in other job functions within process or other company processes within scope and ability.


To be Considered for this Role You'll Need...

  • A High School diploma or equivalent. 

  • Three years of experience in machine shop operations including vertical milling machines, lathes and surface grinding machines.

  • The ability to follow verbal and written instructions, blue prints, and special order specifications.

  • Good planning, organization and communications skills.

  • The ability to use a variety of measuring devices (e.g., micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc.).

  • The ability to perform math calculations, including decimals and percentages.

  • The ability to understand and apply mechanical concepts (i.e., mechanical aptitude)

  • To be able to bend and stoop constantly.

  • The ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and occasionally 100 lbs. with mechanical assistance or the help of another employee.

  • To maintain safety consciousness and alert to safety hazards.
