Avery Dennison is seeking a Product Development Engineer, Specialty & Durables to join the Labels and Graphics Materials Group North America Research and Development team in Mentor, Ohio. In this role, the successful candidate will bring passion, determination and a sense of urgency to new product development and innovation. As an R&D Product Development Engineer in Specialty and Durables, you will lead cross-functional project teams to drive new product development from concept to commercialization, as well as cost reduction and business continuity efforts. You will work closely with marketing, supply chain, operations and quality teams to ensure business success in a leading company where individual and team success are recognized and rewarded.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead technical projects while being accountable to delivering product attributes on time, while using good project management tools
Communicate effectively across all functions and levels
Collaborate with all levels of the organization acting as a subject matter expert in pressure sensitive adhesives applications
Deliver results in the areas of statistical data analysis, lean and problem solving, in addition to creativity and the ability to collaborate and drive results across boundaries with speed
Ideate and develop mastery through such work as market research, design and execute of experiments, benchmarking, test method development linked to performance in manufacturing and customer and end-user processes, analysis of suppliers and markets to identify trends and opportunities for marketplace advantage, as well as new product development, processes and services
Act as a team role model of Avery Dennison’s Values and positively influence team members to partner together to achieve individual and business goals
Partner with the Specialty & Durables marketing team to translate customer requirements into product attributes
Degree in Polymer Science/Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Materials Science equivalent, Chemistry or equivalent, advanced degree preferred
4+ years of industry experience preferred
Strong project management skills and knowledge of new product development processes
Strong technical background, scientific and engineering knowledge with emphasis on analytical skills, problem solving, and statistical data analysis
Ability to interface effectively with cross-functional groups to define and execute overall requirements
Understanding of basic pressure sensitive adhesive properties, evaluation and performance impacts
Familiarity of different pressure sensitive adhesive formulations including emulsions, solvents and hotmelts
Familiarity with different types of coating processes, label stocks, lamination and converting preferred
Familiarity with the pressure sensitive label industry and the end use segments that it serves, especially demanding applications
