Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated lawyer to provide a full range of legal services to Avery Dennison’s Materials Group North America’s commercial, operations, and support functions. The candidate will be able to handle a wide range of legal work, including day-to-day legal matters and sophisticated legal projects, have a practical business-oriented approach, be highly collaborative and willing and eager to learn, and demonstrate our company values (https://www.averydennison.com/en/home/about-us/values.html) , especially integrity.

This position reports to the Vice President & Associate General Counsel, Americas.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality, practical, and strategic legal support to the Materials Group North America business teams on a wide variety of commercial, legal, regulatory, and compliance issues, including drafting commercial contracts and managing commercial disputes; antitrust and anti bribery; ESG issues; marketing and advertising; product liability and compliance; EHS; and labor and employment

  • Review and analyze legal issues efficiently and effectively, working calmly under pressure to provide timely and appropriate legal advice

  • Have regular interaction with business clients to understand objectives, goals, and strategies to gain knowledge for providing business-oriented legal advice

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of complex contracts, including purchase and sale, distribution, consulting, and others

  • Identify and effectively communicate (both orally and in writing) risks and legal developments to colleagues in the Law Department and business teams and work closely with them to implement strategic and pragmatic solutions

  • Lead and support the Contract Administrator who supports the MG NA business.

  • Develop and deliver engaging training to internal clients on timely legal topics

  • Plan and carry out sensitive internal investigations

  • Assist in the improvement of legal support processes, templates, and client-facing materials to drive greater internal efficiencies

  • Manage outside counsel on litigation matters and other strategic projects, including budgeting, forecasting, and managing outside counsel spend

  • Contribute to a positive working environment within the Legal Department, encouraging an environment that supports diversity, inclusion, trust, and respect

  • Some travel required (< 10%; could fluctuate depending on the circumstances)

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school

  • Licensed to practice law in Ohio

  • Three (3) to five (5) years of post-bar legal experience as a practicing lawyer involved in commercial and compliance issues; corporate and law firm experience are both desirable

  • Experience conducting or managing litigation

  • Motivated by a fast-paced environment; ability to deal effectively with a variety of legal matters at once

  • Strong communication skills

  • Proactive, business-oriented approach
