The Legal Coordinator provides administrative support and assistance to the IP and Legal team of Avery Dennison’s Retail Brand Information Solutions (“RBIS”). The work includes a variety of clerical, coordination, docketing, administrative activities and research, specific to the IP and Legal function.
Review time-sensitive incoming correspondence from the USPTO, foreign associates, and internal resources;
Enter all necessary prosecution activity and deadlines into our docketing system;
Prepare and distribute regular and ad-hoc reports to IP team;
Open records in docketing and financial systems;
Populate and maintain patent and trademark records in electronic document management system;
Assist with preparation and filing of common patent prosecution documents for filing at USPTO and foreign patent offices, including original national and PCT patent filing forms, missing parts responses, information disclosure statements, assignment documents;
Format US Office action responses for attorneys;
Prepare and maintain physical files for patent prosecution team; and
Routine correspondence, schedule appointments, meetings, travel arrangements, expense reports, and provide support to the IP and Legal team as needed.
- The position will be based in Mentor, Ohio and reports to the lead paralegal and works closely with RBIS’ Technology and Innovation Leadership Teams (Apparel Solutions, RFID, and Printer Systems Division).
- This position is a full time temporary position but may be made a permanent position in due course.
Education and Credentials
An associate’s degree or paralegal/admin certificate with excellent credentials is preferred.
2+ years of administrative or paralegal experience or demonstrated equivalent
Skilled in data compilation, entry and analysis
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience of providing paralegal or administrative support
Strong interpersonal skills and team player
Demonstrated ability to build relationships at a distance
Ability to prioritize effectively and work under pressure
Willingness to learn and take on additional task
Experience working for a large organization and across functions
Familiarity with Avery Dennison’s products
Experience with trademark and copyright is a plus
