This Divisional Enterprise Lean Sigma (ELS)/PPAP Project Leader will function as a Lean/Six Sigma resource who will be deployed across operations and supply chain functions across various sites and divisional HQ building, Mentor, OH, in LGM-NA. Primary responsibilities will include leading the Automotive PPAP / MAQMSR (Production Part Approval Process / Minimum Automotive Quality Management System Requirements) compliance efforts and providing hands-on support to the sites which manufacture adhesives and products for the automotive market. This role will be focused on leading the PPAP projects, complaint handling, Corrective Action Preventive Action (CAPA) processes as well as implementation of Quality Systems as they relate to PPAPs at the impacted sites. This role is approximately a 50/50 split between leading ELS efforts and leading PPAP/MAQMSR compliance efforts.
50% focus as traditional ELS Leader:
Analyze manufacturing and supply chain processes to identify activities that will eliminate non-value added activities
Create and/or improve processes that add value to our customers
Independently implement projects and sustain results using Lean and Six Sigma tools and methods
Track and regularly report on key production and continuous improvement metrics
Be a change agent
Challenge old ways of doing business and implement breakthrough improvements
Motivate others to accept process changes and encourage ownership and accountability
Share best practices across business units, production sites, and support functions
Support sites in developing and executing productivity plans
Develop in-depth understanding of Avery Dennison’s Enterprise Lean Sigma philosophy and methods. Demonstrate through successful training and certification in these areas.
Train and educate others in the organization on Lean/Six Sigma principles
Facilitate problem solving, A3 thinking workshops, and Kaizen events
Achieve Six Sigma Greenbelt certification
50% Focus as PPAP / MAQMSR Leader:
Support the continued PPAP/MAQMSR process including product audits, inspection, management of change, change notification, training employees on process if needed and updating training records, updating PPAP records in QSI, and updating QSI documents with new specs
Manage and complete the 17 PPAP required records for the spec(s) included as appropriate depending on the level of PPAP requested for all critical characteristics defined by the customer
Conduct quality audits for PPAP products, processes, and if required, suppliers
Support external audits on completed PPAPs
Coordinate and execute statistical studies on PPAP specs including: process mapping, control charting, Gage R&R, FMEA, capability analysis, control plans, etc.
Chair the cross-functional review team to obtain signoff of manufacturing readiness acceptance
Lead weekly and monthly meetings with the project team and stakeholders to assign key project tasks, establish timelines, report on milestones, progress, support needed, and what is in the pipeline for the next month
Provide plant quality support and representation in new PPAP product development, spec reviews and approvals, scale up, design transfer, and facility validation activities
Provide internal production quality support related to issue resolution, PPAP product quality/risk assessment and product disposition
Act as liaison amongst functions to ensure PPAP requirements are met consistent with achieving manufacturing readiness
Ensure compliance with the requirements of MAQMSR at the site and procurement level. Partner with Procurement to ensure supplier requirements are compliant with MAQMSR.
Interact with the customer as appropriate
Provide assistance in the QA lab to perform PPAP product testing
Develop quality standards (procedures) and requirements for suppliers
Provide training and quality support to the production areas
Bachelor’s degree in a technical field required. An Associates degree with at least 3 years of relevant experience in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Quality, or related fields could also be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's degree.
2+ years technical and/or manufacturing experience.
Solid understanding of business metrics and customer value.
Proven leadership skills: able to coach, influence, and motivate others.
High energy, passion for excellence, bias for action. Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and sustain change.
Effective oral and written communication skills; ability to effectively present complex topics in a concise manner.
Effective interpersonal skills dealing with people at various levels and in a variety of functions.
Strong quantitative and analytical capability. A background in statistical methods is a plus.
Understanding of applicable computer systems, such as Microsoft Office, Lotus Notes, and function specific software. Understanding of MiniTab software is a plus.
