Job Description

Avery Dennison is seeking a Global Sustainability Manager to provide subject matter expertise and leadership on environmental sustainability and climate, particularly as it relates to engaging suppliers on the sustainability and climate journey. 

You will serve as a key contributor to the strategic direction and execution of Avery Dennison’s Scope 3 GHG emissions reduction journey and ambition of Net Zero by 2050. 

You will work globally and manage supplier engagement and internal stakeholders that work with these suppliers. This role is to further develop and implement an engagement process and tools for advancing supplier maturity on GHG emissions reduction.

The candidate must be knowledgeable and passionate about sustainability issues and has an infectious drive and enthusiasm to inspire and educate others. Strong action oriented leader with demonstrated global experience and a relentless capacity to work across functions and organizational bounds to advance Avery Dennison’s capabilities and reputation regarding climate change. In this role, you will work closely with the Global Director, Sustainability to advance, elevate, align, and execute Avery Dennison’s ambition of Net Zero by 2050. 

You will report to the Global Director, Sustainability and have one dotted line report from the procurement organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Raise awareness of the role that purchasing and procurement, and in turn suppliers play in achieving Avery Dennison’s 2025 and 2030 sustainability goals, particularly as it relates to reducing our environmental impact across the supply chain. 

  • Further develop and implement a supplier engagement process and tools for advancing supplier maturity on GHG emissions reduction.

  • Conduct the baseline assessment of supplier maturity to identify hot spots for impact. and define the roadmap for reduction. 

  • Develop a programme of internal and external capacity building, to raise awareness of our Scope 3 GHG emissions reduction journey, which directly supports the delivery of the goals.

  • Collaborate with sustainability and digitalization colleagues for setting up of the IT Scope 3 tool, with particular focus on aligning the method for collecting and integrating primary data from suppliers into holistic measurement. 

  • Provide subject matter expertise to the procurement teams and supplier base when it comes to matters relating to sustainability and GHG reduction.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred or equivalent.

  • 8+ years business experience, preferably within the manufacturing and/or packaging industry.

  • Experience of working with procurement functions, including supplier management, category management or sourcing.

  • Experience of working within the sustainability function and knowledge of GHG reduction principles (scope 1, 2 and 3).

  • Excellent influencing and leadership skills.

  • Demonstrated record of change management across a function, alongside organizational leadership and change.

  • Strong analytical skills. 

  • Comfortable with dealing with complexity, curious and looking forward to learning new concepts to do business differently

  • Demonstrated success in cross-regional projects or initiatives

  • Excellent organizational and people skills, project management skills, with an ability to openly convey information to team members in a timely, concise manner

  • Ability to travel globally up to 30% of the year.
