Job Description

The Transportation Director provides strategic direction for all transportation related activities for Label and Graphic Materials in North America (LGM NA). Is responsible for continuously identifying initiatives to drive total supply chain cost down while maintaining excellent service and for collaborating cross-functionally with the Procurement, Supply Chain and Operations teams to execute on lowest cost-high service Transportation strategies. The leader will work closely with regional stakeholders to align on business objectives to deliver value and cost savings.

This position will also investigate new developments relative to Freight and Logistics services, and make recommendations designed to reduce costs and improve quality and service. The Transportation Director role is based on sustained delivery of business results, including supply assurance, cost, quality, service and innovation. The position will be located in Mentor, Ohio and reporting to the Vice President of Operations & Supply Chain.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Develop and deliver upon a North American Transportation strategy and annual operating plan.

  • Lead a cross functional team, which includes Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Finance and Procurement to ensure inbound and outbound freight are managed, recorded and continuously improved, compliant to the overall strategy.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with approved carriers in North America to ensure target levels of service are consistently achieved.

  • Develop and execute cost reduction initiatives to achieve designated Freight budget while maintaining high levels of service and shipping efficiency at all manufacturing and distribution sites

  • Partner with and influence internal business partners from project initiation through project closure to insure early involvement and optimal use of procurement and supplier tools, processes, systems and best practices.

  • Understand local and regional standard operating procedures (SOPs), workflows, and processes, and determine opportunities for improvement and standardization

  • Identify and deliver cost savings opportunities within the North American region and businesses

  • With assistance of cross-divisional team, develop method of objectively measuring and scoring the performance of each carrier

  • Analyze carriers and service providers to identify trends, industry dynamics, opportunities for marketplace advantage, and new ideas for processes and services

  • Lead, coach, train and provide development opportunities for staff. Ensure annual goals are complete and communicated, Global Performance Management System is up-to-date and regular feedback is provided to staff members.


What you will need to bring to the team:

  • Bachelor's degree (Business, Supply Chain Management, Operations or Engineering) required, Master’s degree preferred.

  • 8+ years work experience in transportation management.

  • Additional experience in transportation or supply chain management, strategic sourcing or other areas of procurement a plus.

  • Self-starter, able to drive projects to conclusion and work effectively with a variety of people at various levels within the company.

  • Experience leading, managing and developing people.

  • CPSM (Certified Professional in Supply Management) with PMP (Project Management Professional) designation preferred.

  • Strong problem solving skills and demonstrated ability to manage/lead multiple projects and programs simultaneously.

  • Demonstrated success facilitating and influencing positive change with internal business partners; must have a strong customer service orientation and high business acumen.

  • Oracle and Ariba proficiency is a plus.

  • Unquestioned integrity and ethics.

  • Ability to travel (5-10%)
