What we are looking for

Avery Dennison’s North America Leadership Development Program (LDP) runs with a single business focus to build talent for our rapidly growing organization. With a concentrated blend of experiential on-the-job learning and classroom and virtual training, the LDP serves as the talent pipeline for leadership roles throughout the region.

We are searching for individuals who have the right technical capability and want to pursue a career in Data Science and/or Predictive Analytics. To be our next Data Science Associate, you will apply your educational background in mathematics, statistics, and computer science to tackle real-world business challenges and opportunities. You can expect to be presented with large volumes of data from a variety of business systems, and tasked to transform this data into actionable information by mining the data and applying statistical and analytical models. This information will be forward-looking, and consider both historical transactions, business entity profiles, and external sources in predicting future performance.

Data Science Associates receive in-depth exposure to both global and functional parts of the organization by rotating through different assignments over the course of 30 months. The position is based in Mentor, Ohio - outside Cleveland. We are only considering individuals who are excited about relocating to Northeast Ohio for the program.

The Data Science LDP Associate will typically rotate through some of the following roles/functions:

  • Business Requirements

  • Business Intelligence

  • Data Quality

  • Master Data Management

  • Data Integration

What you will be doing

The primary roles and responsibilities of this LDP will be:

  • Select features, build and optimize classifiers using machine learning techniques

  • Data mine using state-of-the-art methods

  • Improve data collection procedures to include information that is relevant for building analytic systems

  • Promote advantages and successes of Predictive Analytics in furthering business development

  • Perform ad-hoc analysis and present results in a concise manner

  • Mentor other technical and non-technical personnel in the development and application of statistical and predictive models.

  • Establish and maintain a strong working relationship with our key business users to support growing their use of data science to improve operational and financial performance


What you will need to bring to the program

Avery Dennison has a long history of being an industry leader. Your history is important to us. It should include the following:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems, Data Analytics, Mathematics, Finance, Business, or related field required. Expected graduation date should be December 2019 (to start in January 2020) or May 2020 (to start in June 2020)


  • Previous internship or co-op experience required

  • Leadership experience via student organizations, athletics, intramural sports, volunteerism or similar activities

  • Heavy interest in applying technology to solve business issues

  • Experience with Structured Query Language (SQL), Python, and/or R


  • Flexibility and willingness to relocate to Northeast Ohio for the program

  • Ability to travel around 10% of the time
