We’re seeking a Data Science Intern to join the our Label and Graphic Materials Group in North America during the summer of 2019. We are looking for an intern that will help us discover and interpret information hidden in vast amounts of data, and help us make smarter decisions to deliver even more value to the organization. Your primary focus will be in applying data mining techniques, performing statistical analyses, and building high quality solutions.What you will be doingThe primary roles and responsibilities of this internship will be:
Select features, build and optimize classifiers using machine learning techniques
Data mine using state-of-the-art methods
Improve data collection procedures to include information that is relevant for building analytic systems
Process, cleanse, and verify the integrity of data used for analysis
Perform ad-hoc analysis and present results in a clear manner
Craft automated anomaly detection systems and constantly track its performance
Identify present and future opportunities to the various functions in the organization
Establish and maintain a strong working relationship with our key business users to support growing their use of data science to improve operational and financial performance
What you will need to bring to the programAvery Dennison has a long history of being an industry leader. Your history is important to us. It should include the following: Education
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or equivalent technical degree
Excellent understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms
Experience with common data science toolkits, such as R, etc. Excellence in at least one toolkit is strongly preferred
Strong communication and facilitation skills
Experience with data visualisation tools, data analysis and model scoring, including the application of business metrics to data sets
Proficiency in using query languages such as SQL
Excellent applied statistics skills, such as distributions, statistical testing, regression, etc.
Good scripting and programming skills
Ability to deliver results in a partnering and collaborative style and ability to influence
Ability to lead testing cycles and provide training and coaching services to key users on the built solutions
