Job Description

Avery Dennison is seeking an Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist for our manufacturing site in Lowell, Indiana. In this role you will report to the Plant Manager with a dotted line to the Regional EHS Manager. Key responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Implementing programs and developing facility specific procedures that ensure compliance with regulatory and Company requirements.

  • Integration of Company and facility level EHS management systems to maintain compliance, environmental protection and safe operating conditions.

  • Tracking and regularly reporting the status of regulatory compliance and improvement initiatives.

  • Maintaining OSHA 300 log, form 301, and all other governmental and corporate database records.

  • Organizing and controlling an effective accident prevention program.

  • Implementing education and training to support regulatory and business requirements.

  • Function as the contractor-plant representative to assure compliance of all site-related requirements from contractors.

  • Acting as a resource and mentor to facility safety teams.

  • Investigating all releases, injuries and near-misses.

  • Coordinating the Job Safety Analysis program and OSHA PPE compliance program and maintaining the SDS system.

  • Conducting periodic inspections of plant machinery, equipment, and working conditions to ensure conformance to appropriate safety and sanitary standards and regulations.

  • Driving continuous improvement and delivering strong results from behavioral based processes.

  • Maintaining the facility's compliance records for permits. Reviewing Federal, State and local regulation changes that impact permits and permit compliance. Interfacing with regulatory agencies, as needed.

  • Identifying and evaluating hazardous conditions and practices and developing hazard control practices and programs.

  • Supporting and assisting in the tracking of site/corporate sustainability objectives.

  • Help champion health and wellness initiatives.

  • Conduct frequent site walks to interact with operations personnel and drive a strong safety culture.

  • Serve as a member of the site leadership team and support peers in achieving site goals and objectives.


  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering or related field preferred.

  • 2-5 years of EHS experience with progressive work assignments, preferably in a manufacturing setting

  • Advanced professional EHS certification (CSP, CIH, CHMM, QEP, CEA, REM etc.) preferred and experience with behavioral based safety initiative desired.

  • Process Safety Management (PSM) experience is desired.

  • Air permitting and reporting experience is a plus.

  • Good knowledge of both safety and environmental regulatory requirements and EHS policies, procedures and programs.

  • Good Project/Problem Resolution skills.

  • Understanding of applicable computer systems, such as Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Lotus Notes and function specific software.

  • Think strategically and have strong leadership skills with strong interpersonal communications.

  • Strong mentoring, facilitating and training skills with the flexibility to support a 24 hour 7 day manufacturing schedule.
