Job Description

The EH&S Coordinator will assist in enhancing the Greenfield Indiana manufacturing site's environmental, health and safety culture by performing a variety of activities in a 24/7 operation.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential functions may include, but are not limited to:

EHS Programs & Management System Responsibilities

  • Assist in the implantation of company EHS programs and provide input that aids the EHS team in developing facility specific procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory and Company requirements, as well as employee safety.

  • Participate in the development of EHS program components: operational procedure, work instructions, training material, JSA’s, plant safety standards, etc.

  • Assist in the integration of Company and facility level EHS management systems to maintain compliance, environmental protection and safe operating conditions.

Reporting & Documentation

  • Compile process safety information for each covered process and keep readily accessible to employees and management, as well as updated on an annual basis as needed or required. This includes (but not limited to) JSA’s, audits, inspection documentation, document filing and storage.

  • Use a structured processes scorecard to measure and communicate Safety/Environmental performance with both leading results and indicators.

  • Perform administrative duties for the EHS department including but not limited to general data entry and filing of safety training, incident documentation, compliance documentation, and other EHS records.

Training, Resource & Counsel

  • Assist in the organization and oversight of EHS functions to ensure that an effective accident prevention program is maintained, that appropriate measures are taken to comply with Local, Corporate, OSHA/EPA and related safety and environmental policies agencies and directives. Coordinate with the EHS team to ensure the company stays in compliance with company and client policies and procedures as well as federal and state laws,

  • Act as a resource to facility teams. Investigate all spills/releases, injuries and near-misses. Give feedback and suggestions on preventive or corrective measures to aid in nonrecurrence.

  • The position may also be responsible for assisting in treating minor injuries (first-aid), EHS training, recordkeeping, performing accident investigations, etc.

Compliance & Safety Programs

  • Conduct area and facility safety audits.

  • Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices while supporting the development of hazard control practices and programs. Assist in maintaining the site’s SDS system.

  • Investigate safety or compliance issues in conjunction with line and staff personnel. Notify top management of pertinent details. Guide and/or assist with plant personnel at locations with critical environmental, safety and health issues.

  • Conduct periodic inspections of plant machinery, equipment, and working conditions to ensure conformance to appropriate safety and sanitary standards and regulations.

Continuous Improvement

  • Use 5s methodology to drive improvements. Suggest solutions to occupational exposures and safety issues. Promote and drive continuous improvement that deliver strong results from behavioral based processes.

  • At times will be asked to assist in the evaluation of new environmental, health and safety technologies and processes to develop strategies and tactics for reducing workplace and operational hazards and environmental impacts.


Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma required. Associates degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering / Science or related field preferred.

  • Basic understanding of EHS policies, procedures and programs including Lock Out Tag Out, Confined Spaces, Machine Safety/Guarding, PPE use, proper hazard communication labeling, etc.

  • Participation on the Greenfield MERT team is required. Must be a current MERT team member or willing to become a MERT team member through training.

  • Understanding of applicable computer systems, such as Microsoft Office, Lotus Notes, Google Suite, and function specific software.

  • Good interpersonal communications and ability to collaborate with employees at all levels of the organization with willingness to provide safety coaching when needed or directed.

  • Uses best practices and knowledge of internal or external business issues to improve products or services.

Preferred Requirements

  • Previous experience as an EMT, CPR/First-Aid trainer, or other emergency services experience.

  • Experience in life safety codes: EHS rules, HAZWOPER experience, hazardous materials work, training, principles of occupational safety and health, and Industrial hygiene.
