Job Description

We are looking for a Coating Manager to join our Label & Packaging Materials Group at our facility in Greenfield, IN. In this role you will report into the Site Operations Manager and direct multiple shifts in a 24/7 manufacturing environment. This role requires continuous coordination of production-related activities, workforce planning, employee relations, and effective communication in order to meet production, quality and cost objectives, leading the day-to-day Coating operations. As a member of the Plant Leadership Team, you will act as a mentor and coach for front line supervisors.

What you will be doing

Operations / Productivity Initiatives

  • Lead, coordinate and assist in day to day team operations ensuring effective communication.

  • Assist in establishing annual budgets for manufacturing, including overtime, supplies and equipment expenditures.

  • Review and correct cost variances researching issues and putting corrective action plans in place.

  • Manage Shift Managers (Coating and Material Handling) in the implementation and administration of company policies and procedures.

  • Participate in production and plant leadership team (PLT) meetings; communicating goals/objectives/priorities to the team.

  • Support the development and implementation of Safety, Quality, Service, Productivity, Cost and Continuous Improvement Programs.

Leadership / Development Initiatives

  • Mentor and coach all direct reports.

  • Lead Production teams in achievement of production requirements.

  • Promote and maintain a collaborative working relationship with workforce.

  • Support performance management activities – including performance evaluation, objective setting, and developmental planning for hourly manufacturing employees.

  • Establish performance and development plans for Shift Team Managers, establishing SMART performance objectives that can be measured.

  • Ensure effective training of new employees and continued cross-training and development of existing employees, including apprentice operators.

  • Assist Team Managers in the management of employee relations, including discipline, employee conduct, and performance.

Continuous Improvement / ELS Initiatives

  • Drive standard work and 5S Initiatives throughout the organization.

  • Support the implementation of ELS (Enterprise Lean Sigma) and Six Sigma initiatives, including employee training.

  • Manage Coating Loss Champion with emphasis on driving improvements in Coating Losses, Webstock Losses, C-Code Losses and Liquid Losses.

Safety Training Initiatives

  • Act as safety champion and provide safety leadership through modeling appropriate behavior and adherence to all safety policies and processes.

  • Provide training, quarterly reviews and support to safety team as needed.

  • Conduct accident investigations as needed.

  • Work with Occupational Health Nurse to manage return to work/workforce restrictions as appropriate.


What you will need to bring to the team

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • 6+ years Operations/Manufacturing experience with 3+ manufacturing leadership experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated successful experience in leading and managing individuals and teams.

  • Working knowledge of modern manufacturing, material flow and improvement strategies (e.g. ELS, continuous flow, cellular etc.) and the ability to integrate those into the operation.

  • Demonstrated understanding of financial systems and the key drivers within the manufacturing environment.

  • Strong organizational skills in strategy, communication at all levels and execution.

  • Strong leadership skills. Ability to lead, contribute, and influence others in a team-based organization
