Job Description

The Director, Risk Management is responsible for the leadership, success and governance of risk management initiatives across the organization. This role develops, recommends and implements actions that identify, evaluate, mitigate, monitor and control the company's operational and strategic risk. Partner with cross-functional leaders to assess diverse business activities that threaten the safety, security, assets, reputation and success of a global enterprise.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Drive business value through the execution of the enterprise risk approach by

  • Leading and developing a high-performance team of risk professionals

  • Developing enterprise risk management tools, practices, and policies to analyze and report enterprise risks, and to manage risks according to an enterprise risk management framework

  • Owning the process of identifying, measuring and managing insurable or hazard risks

  • Overseeing the execution of Avery Dennison’s global risk management insurance program

  • Manage Avery Dennison’s captive insurance company

  • Manage executive risk insurance policies

  • Oversee insurance claims and loss recovery strategies

  • Manage relationships with outside RM-related vendors

  • Provide oversight and direction for site and travel related security risks

  • Ensure the organization's risk management policies and strategies are in compliance with applicable regulations, and strategic imperatives of the organization

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

● Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business, Finance or related field; MBA or JD a plus

● 10+ years of Risk Management, Business, Legal, or related experience required

● Associate in Risk Management (ARM) designation preferred

Knowledge and Skills:

● Excellent organizational and people skills; project management skills, with an ability to convey information to team members and internal clients in a clear and concise manner

● Solid leadership skills with a proven track record of influencing, motivating and inspiring colleagues

● Demonstrated success as a team player who can work effectively across organizational boundaries in cross-functional projects or initiatives

● Expert knowledge of applicable risk management and insurance-related

● Strong interpersonal and communication skills required; ability to hold staff accountable for performance imperative

● Demonstrated planning, organizing, project management and strategy implementation skills, including budget responsibilities

● Able to challenge traditional boundaries and eliminate barriers; willingness to take risks and try new concepts

● Proven success as organized and logical thinker; ability to prioritize and sort complex issues, ability to drive to root cause and resolution
