The Sr. Design Engineer will be a major contributor to our New Product Development Team. We are seeking an individual with strong design experience who can create precision plastic components, test fixtures, electro and pneumatic mechanisms and machinery for worldwide distribution. The ideal candidate will have a successful track record in the design and development of high volume plastic products used preferably in the automotive, industrial and general retail industries. Experience in rapid prototyping processes as well as in the use of solid modeling computer aided design software is required.
This role will be flexible on remote working , however needs to be available onsite to support lab, production and projects specific actions and during the initial weeks for training.
Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Design, analysis, prototype, and qualify new products through project management process
Plan, schedule, and implement multiple product development projects simultaneously, while meeting timeline for the work you're doing
Collaborate with Business Development and Sales functions to identify and develop new product solutions that meet identified market needs (CTQ’s & VOC)
Diagnose/solve customer problems related to existing and new product testing and deployment
Collaborate with Operations & Quality functions to ensure quality standards of high volume manufacturing
Supports business process management methodologies such as ISO/IATF-16949. Knowledge in PPAP’s and APQP procedures a plus
Identify/lead external resources for design, development, & prototyping
Help to identify, qualify, and develop high quality suppliers
5 to 10 years experience in the engineering design of plastic components and mechanisms
Solid modeling proficiency (Preferably SolidWorks)
Injection molding tooling and process comprehension
Material knowledge (plasitcs)
Proven communication, problem solving, listening and negotiation skills
ISO9001/IATF16949 or similar quality system process experience
Proficient in spreadsheet, word processing and presentation software (Google based)
Lean Sigma experiences a plus
Focus on automotive plastic components: channels, brackets, custom parts a plus
Ability to travel (10-20%) on a global basis
- Bachelor's degree (BS) in Mechanical Engineering, Plastic or a related field required. Masters degree preferred.
