The successful candidate will maintain and improve the safety, quality, service, cost and culture of the department. They will provide leadership to manufacturing operations by supervising day-to-day production and performance of 30 direct reports on 1st shift, as well as having the 2nd and 3rd shift supervisors reporting into them (an additional 60 reports). Ideal candidate will be a proactive leader that combines good interpersonal skills and basic technical knowledge of molding operations with a hands-on approach to leading the shift. Position requires good communication skills with a diverse workforce and other members of the production leadership team, the ability to prioritize work, a sense of urgency to solve problems, and the ability to make timely and effective decisions to resolve any issues that prevent the company from meeting its goals and objectives. This is a highly visible and promotable position that reports to the Operations Manager.
Manage Employee Performance:
Conduct performance reviews with employees
Detailing and conducting disciplinary action
Ensure employees have necessary skills and schedule training as necessary to fill gaps
Establish succession plans for key roles within the shift
Review attendance records, vacation schedules and payroll
Ensure consistent application of policies
Participate in employee selection and hiring; provide recommendations for promotions
Drive Continuous Improvement:
Communicate and implement Corrective Actions resulting from customer complaints and internally identified opportunities
Identify opportunities to optimize allocation of resources and labor
Improve daily production quality through identification of trends and solving problems collaboratively
Communicate with other functional areas and other shifts to maintain optimum safety, efficiency and quality
Lead Kaizen events and support 5S initiatives
As member of the manufacturing leadership team: develop, track and improve department metrics
Provide Direction During Shift:
Minimum of 50% of the shift spent on the manufacturing floor
Assign packers to machines, coordinate break schedule
Resolve conflicts and issues that arise to include but not limited to production, staffing, and quality; prioritize as necessary
Lead all aspects of and direct the troubleshooting of a variety of technical problems with assistance from tooling, maintenance, distribution and other functional areas as needed
Provide leadership in times of emergency, evacuation or employee injuries
Bachelor Degree required.
Experience within plastic injection molding manufacturing preferred, but not necessary.
Experience supervising a manufacturing operation to include performance management, development, timekeeping/payroll issues and coaching preferred.
Familiarity with ISO 9000, TS/IATF 16949, Lean or Six Sigma preferred.
Confirmed skills working with people to achieve objectives and build a teamwork atmosphere required.
Skill with establishing processes, procedures and measurements for a team and/or operation.
