The Fastener Solutions business unit of Avery Dennison is a worldwide manufacturer of plastic fastening systems used in the automotive, apparel, retail, industrial and packaging industries. Our three-shift injection molding and extrusion operation is located in Fitchburg, MA. The Fastener Solutions business unit is ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 certified.

Job Description

Avery Dennison is seeking a Business Development Manager, Automotive to join the Fasteners organization. This role is responsible for driving growth within our Automotive business at current and new customers (Tiers and OEMs). In this role, you will lead the specification of products at the OEMs as well as the recommendation, selection, and closure of business at the Tiers.


Activities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Own the development of new business at target automotive OEMs based in North America

  • Own specification of FSD products at the OEMs for use across the globe.

  • Provide target OEMs with product recommendations and technical support on their application needs.

  • Provide support to the OEMs on their needs for custom product development in the wire harness, wired components, and fluid management space.

  • Own and maintain a salesforce.com pipeline from entry to close that supports the growth needed to deliver our annual operating plan and deliver key metrics. 

  • Work with the commercial team on prospecting new customers and new opportunities.

  • Provide input and guidance on new automotive products to add to our portfolio to generate accelerated growth.

  • Develop and conduct product training for external customers

  • Work with other business development managers and product manager to ensure appropriate product portfolio and positioning for each sub-segment

  • Develop strategic and tactical/business plans which effectively lead to the development of new automotive sales

  • Scan external technology environment for strategic alliances, business partners, potential joint venture partners, ideas, concepts, and new technologies.

  • Actively participate in the Strategic and AOP planning process


  • 8+ years related business experience, including sales and marketing.

  • Prior expertise in automotive and fastener business industry preferred.

  • Ability to generate support and excitement among an informal, cross-functional team in a matrixed organization.

  • Experience with product development and product commercialization processes.

  • Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills. 

  • Strong teamwork and relationship building skills. 

  • Strong customer focus and orientation.

  • Frequent travel is required


  • Bachelor’s degree required, MBA preferred.
