Job Description

The Open Innovation Engineer role is focused on supporting the external scouting and market analysis of current and external industries to assess trends and market strategies. This keeps in pace with leading innovations across multiple markets and understanding how they can inform and influence our business model. Additionally, this role aids in the established framework for innovation partnership development by which we engage with critical, external innovation collaborators - universities, start-ups, suppliers, etc - and developing key projects associated with our innovation priorities.

This role will work cross-functionally within the Product Line Management, Innovation, and Sustainability team, Marketing, Communications, Operations, and other internal groups. In this role, you will lead and facilitate projects with little direction by taking initiative, staying curious, and solving problems creatively.

In your role as Open Innovation Engineer, delivering on these responsibilities is critical to success:

  • Overall Innovation metrics tracking and reporting

  • Capture market intel and trends analysis.

  • Create and own the process to capture intelligence within and outside the company.

  • Technology and critical business scouting

  • Project management and support for major initiatives with external partnership projects

  • Support various internal employee communications and scheduling

Qualifications

Education:

  • At least a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Materials and Logistics or related preferred.

Experience:

  • Establish, lead, and update innovation metrics from analytics and insights gained from current/adjacent industries

  • Ability to distill complex data into actions

  • Self-starter, takes initiative, and has an entrepreneurial spirit that is able to work independently and collaboratively

  • Ability to drive projects forward with organization of clear targets and concise requirements for success

  • Ability to understand and create value; demonstrated track record developing and executing new business ventures

  • 2+ years related business experience, emphasizing sales, business development and marketing desired

  • Demonstrated success in cross-regional and vertical projects/initiatives

  • Strong ability to explore and network in current and adjacent industries

  • Advanced business and financial acumen needed

  • Experience in planning and forecasting, with practical experience in researching new opportunities and implementing successful account penetration

  • Excellent organizational and people skills, project management skills, with an ability to openly convey information to team members in a timely, concise manner

  • Understanding of applicable computer systems, such as Microsoft Office, Google Suite tools and function specific software.

  • Excellent oral, written communication and presentation skills

Other:

  • Advanced skills taking large amount of data and distilling into meaningful solutions

  • Able to conduct research, prepare comprehensive reports and present complex statistical information in a clear and succinct fashion

  • Can evaluate multiple variables to arrive at the optimum solution

  • Competency in objective setting and providing appropriate situational leadership to execute these strategies

  • Ability to take on increased responsibility, special initiatives, and leadership role

  • Agile team environment

  • Travel expected at 20-30%
